Skills HQ / S.A.M Motor City | Terms and Conditions

1. Attendance and Scheduling

  1. Please be advised that consistent attendance over a long period of time is essential for your child's progress in the program/s.
  2. Each academic class is 60 minutes long and music lessons are 30 minutes or 45 minutes depending on age and level.
  3. Please schedule your sessions at least 48 hours in advance to allow us to adequately prepare for the class and accommodate all students fairly. Scheduling classes is on a “first come first served” basis.
  4. ‘Drop-ins’ cannot be accommodated.
  5. Sessions must be rescheduled a minimum of 24 hours in advance and can only be scheduled within 14 days of the canceled class. Thereafter the session will be forfeited.
  6. Any sessions unattended or missed without cancellation a minimum of 24 hours in advance will not be eligible for rescheduling or make-up classes, with exception to sudden and unexpected illness. Evidence may be requested.
  7. Punctuality is important. Students will only receive instruction during their scheduled time slot.
  8. We will not extend session time for being tardy (e.g. If a student is 15 minutes late, the session will be shortened by 15 minutes and end at their scheduled end time). We schedule our Instructors' classes based on when our students are scheduled to arrive and depart. If your child shows up too early for a scheduled session, he/she will most likely be asked to wait until the scheduled start time. Showing up too early or too late throws off our Instructor schedule and could impact the learning experience of other students and your child.
  9. You may not exceed the number of sessions provided for in the program/package selected.
  10. Unused or missed paid sessions in a monthly package do not carry forward beyond 5 weeks.
  11. Sessions should be scheduled as far in advance as possible to provide a better chance of getting your preferred time slot.
  12. Classes are between 1 - 4 students in a time slot. 1 on 1 classes are not guaranteed. Classes will never exceed more than 4 students. Adequate time and attention is given to all students and each child’s learning activities are individualized.
  13. Packages cannot be divided and/or shared between siblings or friends.
  14. The online Classcard app is to be used to view, schedule or cancel lessons. It is the sole responsibility of the parent to ensure they are aware of the scheduled classes and reschedule timely, if necessary.

2. Packages and Payments

  1. Skills development takes time and consistency, therefore we do not offer single-class or short-term options.
  2. Monthly packages are offered for new students/parents but are not advised after the first month as it makes it difficult to plan classes for the term.
  3. Term packages generally carry attractive discounts. These are at the discretion of the center and minimum fees are determined by the S.A.M brand and headquarters.
  4. Upfront payment is required before any classes can be scheduled or attended. For S.A.M and S.A.E, students need to be loaded on the online international portal which carries a fee and waiting period. Intensives are personalized and need to be prepared in advance to ensure quality service. We therefore require all packages and program payments to be made at least 24 hours before the first class.
  5. The full invoice amount is due upon receipt.
  6. You may cancel at any time with 2 weeks notice. Any credit remaining after the 2 week period will be fully refunded within 1 calendar month of giving notice.
  7. We will assume that you acknowledge and agree to all our terms and conditions if you pay any invoice for a class or package.

3. Instructors

The Skills HQ center is staffed by carefully selected qualified and trained Instructors.

We will attempt to match your child with an instructor as best as possible and keep them with that instructor for the majority of the time, however, where necessary, another instructor will step in to teach a class if the regular instructor is sick/on leave/ unable to teach the class.

4. Center Hours of Operation

  1. The opening hours and days of operation for the center may vary depending on the time of the year (e.g. summer hours), and Instructor training. This will be posted on our website.
  2. Days that the Center is closed for holidays are posted on our website.
  3. Operating hours are subject to change and we will do our best to provide prior notice.
  4. Unused sessions do not carry over for vacation or illness. Please make sure make-up sessions are booked within the Package validity period.

5. Center Rules

  1. As part of the Intensives Program, we will assist with homework and test/quiz preparation when needed and if we are requested to do so. To get the best use of this time, students should attempt their homework PRIOR to their session so that the Instructors can see their work and know the challenges facing that student and how to best assist with their homework. Skills HQ does not do a complete check of every homework problem. We will review some questions to check for understanding. The accuracy of each problem is your child's responsibility and is part of the learning process.
  2. Students must be picked up promptly after their session.
  3. Late pick-ups can be very disruptive to the Center as waiting students can become loud and restless.
  4. Please do not leave un-enrolled siblings or friends at the center without adult supervision.
  5. Cell phone usage is NOT allowed in the Center.
  6. Disruptive behavior makes it difficult for other students to do their work. Skills HQ reserves the right to ask a disruptive child to leave the Center. Parents will be called to pick up any disruptive students. Skills HQ also reserves the right to cancel your enrolment should disruptive behavior continue after repeated warnings.
  7. Parents can properly “authorize” individuals to permit those persons to pick up their children. Please let us know immediately if a person for whom you have not previously authorized should pick up your child. The parent should be asked to provide authorization in writing prior to pick-up. The written authorization should include the person’s address, telephone number and a brief description of the individual’s physical appearance. We suggest sending photographs of authorized pick-up persons to ensure child safety and decrease mistakes.
  8. If your child is sick, please show consideration to the other parents and children by waiting to return to your next session until your child has recovered. Students, determined by Skill HQ staff to be sick, will politely be asked to leave (parents will be called).
  9. We expect students to be toilet trained. Please advise if not. We will accommodate students to the bathroom but not inside.

6. Note on Center noise:

We teach for understanding and also try to make learning a fun experience.

Consequently, we expect a certain level of noise in the center.

Mathematics is a language and we teach it by talking about it. Paper is great for practice and recording progress, but real learning happens when the Instructor and students are talking about the concepts.
